Fitness Training Equipment and Weights

Remy Jirek

Introduction
Fitness training equipment is used by most people that perform workout routines to get and stay in shape. There are many different types of fitness equipment available to you. One great way to lose weight and gain muscle is to do weight training or weight lifting. Both of these will increase you muscle, which burns more calories than fat. There is more than one type of weight training you can do as well. Free weights also provide many benefits to a workout routine.

There are numerous types, styles, makes and models of fitness training equipment available on the market today that approach a similar fitness goal but from different perspectives. Some work on toning while the vast majority work on loosing fat and building muscle with some form of workout – applying physical exertion against an opposing force.

Free Weights

In this opposing force class of fitness training equipment is the lifting of man-made weights made of concrete or steel. Actually it is more a method than a class of equipment, and because you are free to move these weights around, this method of lifting weights has been called free weight training. Free weights are probably the oldest form of fitness training equipment next to hard physical labor.

Features and Benefits

As fitness training equipment goes, free weights are relatively inexpensive and a novice can even get started with just a pole or rod and a couple gallon jugs of water hanging from the ends. A basic weight set can be purchased at your local sporting goods store, catalogue store, online, or from a mass merchandiser for a relatively cheap price. Of course, if you want chrome or gold plating, you can spend up to thousands of dollars. The choice is up to you.

Free weights are inexpensive, how to use them is pretty much straightforward, and you can easily build on to what you have as your proficiency and overall stamina improves. Using fitness training equipment is like learning to run or ride a bike, practice and experience is the only way to truly learn about the different pieces of equipment and to truly get your own handle on them.

Free weights such as dumbbells and medicine balls are considered as being better training for sports and for life. We can also create much more specificity of training by using that of free weights than we can with machines. Another benefit of free weight training is that you will get to develop better balance, as machines truly require no balance at all, as you simply sit down on most of them and workout. However, it is also important to know that balance training is actually an essential part of all sports and that it is extremely important for graceful aging.

Regardless of what type of fitness training equipment you actually use, at least you know that you are getting some form of physical activity, which is extremely important and which many people tend to neglect in their daily life.
